This piece was done for the Werewolf Calendar 2014. A guardian wolf watches over three rambunctious pups as they play near a sacred and protected site.

"Hunts are often dangerous endeavors for adult werewolves. Werewolf packs being larger require larger and usually more dangerous game to sustain family groups. As a result adult werewolves in larger family groups will form creches for young werewolves. A single, usually elder werewolf will remain at the den site to monitor the young while the group is away hunting. In smaller family groups subsisting of 3 adults or fewer, pups are often left unattended in carefully selected den sites. Young werewolves are often present for the pre-hunt rally , the contagious raised excitement of the pack, leaving several rambunctious young werewolves in the care of one overwhelmed adult or left to their own devices."

Perhaps this is against the point, and perhaps it’s a little gushy, but the way momma is looking at the viewer…. like she knows her family’s being watched and doesn’t mind.… it makes me think; can you imagine what a privilege it would be for the human photographer or painter taking this picture? To be allowed to sit with this tribal werewolf family, so close to these precious cubs, while their mother watches you, hardly concerned, smiling proudly to be showing you what she’s raised?
